Sphero and Ollie Make their Snowboarding Olympic Debut!

Who has solved the Olympic Wordle today? We only have four more days! Check it out here....

Who loves snowboarding? We have turned our robots into professional snowboarders! We love driving the Sphero and Ollie all over the library... but getting them up and over the ramps is a new challenge that we are tackling. Each class has configured the ramps in different ways and styles. Needless to say, watch your feet because these robots have taken over the library!

Before dismissing learners to their station, I do give a brief overview of what to expect. Here is the challenge sign I created for the table, so they can can head to their station, read the challenge and get started. Click on the image below to get the link to the sign!

Quivervision joins the OLYMPIC EXCITEMENT!

The olympics are always a special time when the world comes together to compete in the greatest games and 2022 has had an awesome Olympic start. Our students have caught the excitement in the library.

How do we combine our art station with the Olympics? We celebrate the different countries. Using the Quivervision flag worksheet, students recreate one of the flags from a country that is currently participating in the Beijing Olympics. This is the PERFECT opportunity for our library learners to access a PRINT alamanac, which has all of the flags included, so they know what they look like! Using the almanac, they find a flag to re-create, confirm that country is participating in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, and then they draw it on the Quivervision sheet below.

Once the flag is complete, learners use the Quivervision app to bring the flag to life!

Next week we will discuss the significance of the Olympic flag with the Olympic rings, and I will encourage learners to think about what the Olympics mean to them and have them design their own original Olympic flag. I will keep you posted on how they turn out!

Olympics in the LIBRARY

How are we celebrating the OLYMPICS @ Hannon's Hub? With a Wordle of course! Check out each day here and see if you and your kiddo can determine the correct Olympic term!

We are also completing some really exciting Olympic challenges....like creating ski slopes with Kapla blocks. It is all about the balance!

The students were really excited to convert our snow covered Minecraft world into the Olympic arena. After just one day, we have a ski jump and the Olympic rings. They are doing an amazing job tackling these challenges.

Check back in later for more Olympic challenges in the library.

February CREATE Digital Stations and Virtual Classroom

Yay for FEBRUARY! The month of friendship, famous African Americans (although we celebrate year round in the library), and the OLYMPICS has finally arrived

We have the new digital CREATE stations for the month, and we have something different: OLYMPIC THEMED WORDLE....There is a wordle for each day throughout the Olympics! Hope you enjoy!

To view the CREATE Stations (and share the link with your students), you can access them on GORDON LIBGUIDES 2-5 Create Stations.  Be sure to scroll down to find the choice board. This digital choice board also includes links to boards from other librarians (and credit is given on their slides).  You will see that I have broken down the digital activities into our CREATE categories. The only change this month is that T is for TRIVIA and the OLYMPICS (instead of Technology and Music).

If you would like to revise the CREATE digital choice board or make your own wordles, feel free to MAKE A COPY.

My students love the CREATE digital choice boards, but they also enjoy the interactive bitmoji classrooms where they can explore different links around the room. Students can access the virtual classroom here: GORDON LIBGUIDES K-5 Virtual Classroom.

There are so many things to celebrate in February, so feel free to make a COPY OF VIRTUAL CLASSROOM and add any links you may need to include for your students.

I hope everyone has a fantastic FEBRUARY, and we all get that one last SNOW STORM to end the winter! Cheers!
